Ski Resorts Near Lutsen Mn

SkiIf cross country skiing is more your thing Minnesota offers more than 100 trails throughout the state. Minnesotans love to cross country ski. Many of the parks in the Twin Cities offer trails in the winter, there are trails just outside the Twin Cities so you can make a nice day trip out of it or you can stay at one of many resorts and have yourself a cross country skiing vacation.

'This is a self-created problem that could have easily been avoided with better planning, says Henry VanOffelen, Natural Resource Scientist with the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy. The ski resort has apparently built its business plan based on artificial snowmaking, but they have not made any plans to secure a sustainable supply of water. At their doorstep is the world's largest supply of freshwater, yet the owners have chosen to de-water a trout stream rather than use the obvious alternative, Lake Superior. The state's laws don't allow a private corporation to wreck a public resource for private corporate gain.'

The most important aspect of this issue is that the Poplar River is not a long-term sustainable source of water for LMC, explained DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr. We need concurrence from LMC and key legislators that they are committed to finding an alternate source of water for snowmaking probably Lake Superior within three years to prevent a reoccurrence of this very difficult situation.
