Winter Hiking California
There are opportunities to capture afternoon sunlight on the crystal shoreline waters of Dog Lake accentuated by brilliant, green marshland, driftwood and submerged timber.
The Cosumnes River Preserve is an ambitious project designed to protect a functioning example of the type of river system once common but now rare in California. People, as well as wildlife, of the Sacramento/San Joaquin region are lucky to have it.
A short distance further is the stone and timber Parsons Memorial Lodge built in 1915 by the Sierra Club. Its namesake is Edward Taylor Parsons (1861 1914), an early Sierra Club high mountain adventure guide who campaigned with John Muir to save Hetch Hetchy. More to come later. Parsons Lodge was constructed in his memory.
